Atlanta's biotech startup ecosystem (2) This is a new version of the so called "startup ecosystem" in the biotech industry in Atlanta. In fact, this is a simplification, because I am only listing organizations and not relationships nor programs nor activities developed by them. Since I could not find any source of information where this ecosystem is defined, I decided to build its structure by myself. This is helpful for my research at Georgia Tech. Here is an updated version of the organizations participating in the ecosystem (still unfinished). I am not sure to use a functional classification like this one, but I suppose it is a good start: - Entrepreneurs / faculty / scientists. - Universities: Georgia Institute of Technology Emory University Georgia State University The University of Georgia Medical College of Georgia - Funding organizations (business angels, venture capital firms, grants): SBIR Georgia ATDC Seed Capital Fund Georgia Research Alliance Innovation Fund - Incubators: Advanced Technology Development Center Emtech Bio (2000) The Georgia BioBusiness Center (2000) Life Sciences Business Development Center and Innovation Center - Industry organizations: Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce Metro Atlanta Bioscience Council (part of the Chamber of Commerce) - "One-stop" centers: Georgia Tech VentureLab - "Catalyst" organizations: Georgia Centers of Innovation Georgia Research Alliance (1990) Georgia Biomedical Partnership (1989) Center for Biotechnology and Drug Design (1994) All these organizations claim participation in the Atlanta's biotech startup ecosystem, even though I could not establish clearly yet the different patterns of participation of each one. The idea to add here all the components of this ecosystem, it will be useful for future reference in my work (my del.icio.us is getting very disorganized).
